What the list shows
Online means the Mac is ready. Online · in use means someone is connected to it now. A Mac with sharing off or paused still shows Online, but it turns connections away.
Offline means the Mac can't be reached, with when it was last seen. That covers a Mac that's asleep, shut down, without internet, or not running Elsewhere.
A Mac that just went away can still show as online for a few minutes.
Waking from sleep is coming
Elsewhere can't wake a sleeping Mac yet. That arrives in an update. Until then, the Mac has to be awake to answer.
Bring it back
- Make sure the Mac is on, awake, and logged in.
- Check that Elsewhere is running. Its icon is in the menu bar.
- Open that menu and check that sharing is on.
- Check the Mac's internet connection.
Once it's back, it shows up in your list within a few minutes.
Keep it reachable
Stop the Mac from sleeping while it's plugged in. In System Settings, find the option to prevent automatic sleeping, under Energy, Energy Saver, or Battery. The display can still turn off.
In Elsewhere, open Settings > General and turn on Open Elsewhere at login. It then starts again after a restart, once someone logs in at the Mac.
If every computer looks offline
The problem may be on your side. Your list says when it can't reach Elsewhere, so check the internet on the device in your hand.
