An ID, a passcode, and an Accept button. The whole flow, from both sides.

1. On their computer

They install Elsewhere and open it.

Elsewhere shows them two things: an ID that never changes, and a passcode that does. They read both to you over the phone.

The ID and passcode, on the computer you're helping.

2. On yours

Click Add a computer on your Mac or PC, or tap it on your iPhone. Type the ID and passcode, and leave Save under Other computers on so you can find them next time.

3. They click Accept

Their computer shows a notification and a banner: your name, and Accept or Decline. Nothing starts until they click Accept, and the request goes away on its own after a minute.

When you're done

Disconnect, and their passcode changes. Next time, they read you the new one. Nobody can come back uninvited, including you.
